In the 60's, this land was known as "Clear Water Beach'', because of how pristine the water is and the beach like river frontage that all the locals would come to swim and hangout at. The Local Lutheran Church bought it and gave it the name "Rau-Wood" after 2 pastors that were considered founding fathers. This was a religious non profit until 2005 but continued to carry the cooperation name of "The Nashville lutherans inc." and "Rau-wood Retreat Center"into the 20th century.
In 2025 the name of the corporation and retreat center was changed to "South Harpeth River Retreat " in coming with a more accurate alignment as a true benefit to the local community ,for the good of the public and inclusive to many denominations of the Christian faith . We love to work with local non profits , faith based and recovery programs of all types and various ministries.
This land is truly a sanctuary of peace that was established on Christ as the one who gives True peace liberally (John 14:27).We honor the various women and men of faith who have faithfully served this Board of the past 65 years to preserve such a place as this. If you do not carry the same faith and expereinces in Christ as we do, we encourage you to come and experience the tangible and undeniable peace and presence you will feel here on this retreat.
